Storing your instrument — What to avoid

Wood reacts to humidity and temperature. Very dry air can cause shrinkage or cracks, while too much humidity can change the instrument's geometry and encourage corrosion.

Avoid a closed car, direct sunlight and storage next to a radiator or an air-conditioning vent. After a big change in temperature, let the instrument adjust inside its case before you open it.

Aim for a stable environment, following the manufacturer's guidelines. A hygrometer helps you decide whether you need to humidify or dehumidify. A case protects the instrument, but it can't fix poor storage conditions on its own. Combine it with regular cleaning and checks of the instrument.
